What does it mean to have a relationship with Jesus instead of just believing in him?

Having a relationship with Jesus goes beyond merely believing he exists; it involves actively engaging with him as a personal Lord and Savior. Believing in Jesus is the first step—recognizing that he is the Son of God who came to save the world through his sacrifice. However, developing a relationship means trusting him fully, obeying his teachings, and seeking to live in alignment with his purpose. Jesus invites us to come close—to walk with him daily, share our struggles, and allow his presence to shape our character. It’s similar to any meaningful relationship: it requires sincerity, communication, and commitment. When you view Jesus as a friend, guide, and Lord, your life is directed by his love and truth. This relationship offers peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7), strength during trials, and hope of eternal life. It’s about surrendering your life into his hands, listening to his voice, and letting his divine love transform your heart. Ultimately, it’s an ongoing journey of trusting and walking with Jesus, not just an intellectual belief.
